Work four days a week. This is one of the objectives of the “4-day week” initiative, which has been adopted by several companies in Brazil to conduct an experiment and answer the question: ‘Can you get more productivity in four working days a week?’

To the Organizers of the Movement”4 day week“, the answer is yes. “The four-day week is being adopted around the world in an effort to improve productivity and well-being in the workplace. Now, Brazilians can enjoy it too,” reads an excerpt from the initiative’s description.

The pilot project will be implemented in 16 companies from various sectors of the economy. For example, there is a law firm, an accounting firm, as well as engineering and communications ventures. In total, around 400 employees will be involved.

    Law

After participating in the 4-day week, a labor issue may arise if managers want to start working five days a week (40 hours). According to the movement’s website, lawyers from the Clementino & Teixeira Advocacia office participating in the initiative will provide legal advice to these organizations.

In an interview with Forbes magazine, lawyers Soraya Clementino and Raquel Teixeira said companies should clarify that this is a pilot program with educational purposes, which can be reversed and collective or individual agreements can be made depending on the case.

4 day week in the world

The initiative to work four days a week instead of five has already been tested in other countries. For example, in the United Kingdom, this year the pilot scheme involved 2900 employees from 61 companies.

According to the 4-day week movement, 92% of participating companies continued with the 4-day week, 39% of employees felt less stressed and 54% found it easier to reconcile personal and professional life. On an average, the company’s revenue has increased by 1.4% compared to the same period of previous years.

Among the employees, 15% of the respondents said that the wage increase would not go back to the 5-day week.
