On November 5, 2015, the law firm PGMBM responsible for the action against BP Billiton in the British court representing 200 thousand claimants directly affected by the failure of the Samarco dam in the municipality of Minas Gerais, Mariana, has changed its name and now goes by Bogest Goodhead, the surnames of the two main partners: Harris Bogest and Tom Goodhead.

The headquarters remain in London, but operations will expand in Brazil. An office will be opened in Rio de Janeiro, and an advanced base will be established in Governador Valladares (MG), a municipality through which the Rio Dos passes. Dose in Regency. More than 300 people will be hired, including 20 new lawyers.

“Our Brazilian litigation has always been the driving force of the business and with a new office in Rio we will build on the great progress we have made in litigation against defendants such as BHP,” says Goodhead.

In early July, the UK Court of Appeal, in a unanimous ruling, published the progress of the action against BHP in the British judiciary. BHP’s thesis that there would be duplicity in reparations efforts because of ongoing processes in Brazil was defeated. Samarco’s shareholders are Vale (50%) and Anglo-Australian BHP Billiton (50%).
