The 26th Sao Paulo International Marathon is back. This Sunday, three years after the last edition held due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the race will take place.

The 42 km traditional route will start and end in Ibirapuera. Thousands of runners from Brazil and abroad will take part in the event, which will have two further distances, 21 km and 5 km.

The start on Sunday will be in waves and the marathon schedule will be as follows:
First wave: Wheelchair class from 6:10 am (from Brasilia)
The second wave: Elite A/B classes from 6:12 a.m.
    Third wave: From 6:19 am
    Fourth wave: From 6:25 am
    Fifth wave: From 6:30 am

The Sao Paulo International Marathon will bring together professional and amateur athletes, but it is worth noting that the categories have different classifications. One attraction this year is Vanderlei Cordero de Lima, the 2002 champion and still record holder in the marathon, which will honor the 21-kilometre event.

The male elite will see the world’s most prominent personalities such as Asfa Legisi Bekele (Ethiopia), Tilahun Abibao Negussi (Ethiopia), Petro Manu Chako (Eritrea), and Bernard Kipsang Chomba (Kenya). As for Brazil, Daniel Chavez da Silva, Giovanni dos Santos, AndrĂ© Luis Silva Antonio and Lorendo Nunes Neto will be the highlights.

In the women’s category, the fight for the top spot on the podium will bring together Italim Teref Tesfao (Ethiopia), Vivian Giftanui Kiplagati (Kenya), Vivian Amorim Figueiredo and Raisa Marcelino do Nascimento.

Along the way, whatever distance you choose, there will be support stations that provide assistance so that runners can have a good race. In a marathon, for example, athletes will have 19 stations available with hydration, medical support, and restrooms.
