A new musical about the life and career of legendary singer and performer Frank Sinatra will be released in the British city of Birmingham later this year.

“Sinatra the Musical” will premiere Sept. 23 at the Birmingham Rep, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the singer’s “Come Fly With Me” and “New York, New York” UK tour, in which he performed in the city.

The story begins on New Year’s Day, 1942, when 27-year-old Sinatra took the stage at New York’s Paramount Theater in a show that catapulted him to success.

As he becomes a huge music star, “he struggles to balance the love of his wife Nancy with the demands and trials of being America’s most popular singer,” producers said in a statement about the show’s plot.

The musical will look at the impact his affair with actress Ava Gardner had on his life and how he staged “the biggest comeback in showbiz history”.

“I’m so proud of our new music release and I’m so excited that, for the first time, we’re going to give you a glimpse of my father that you’ve never seen before,” Sinatra’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, said in a statement.

Sinatra, whose voice became instantly recognizable to fans around the world with classics like “My Way” and “Strangers in the Night,” died in 1998.
