    Today (5), Economy Minister Paulo Guedes affirmed his support for the measures taken by the federal government to achieve the internationally approved sustainable development goals. He was visited by the President of the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP-26) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), Alok Sharma, and the UK Ambassador to Brazil, Peter Wilson.

    During the conversation, the Minister highlighted the high participation of sustainable energy in the Brazilian energy matrix, and said that the Ministry of Economy continues to support the government’s actions to fulfill the commitments made with the United Nations and other international forums.

    Guedes also mentioned that the economic team has taken steps to improve the business environment in the country. The head of COP-26 presented a report to the Brazilian Minister on activities in the UK to promote sustainable development. Among the actions listed, there is a significant increase in the generation of wind energy, rather than generation from thermal sources.

    The supreme body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Conference of the Parties (COP, COP) brings together all signatory countries to the Framework Convention. At the meetings, participants assess progress and difficulties with respect to climate change, as well as the impacts these changes have on the economic, environmental and social spheres.

    The Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Marcelo Guaránez, also participated in the meeting. Special Secretary for Foreign Trade and International Affairs in the Ministry, Roberto Wendt; Deputy Special Minister for Foreign Trade and International Affairs, Joao Rossi; and Secretary for International Economic Affairs, Erivaldo Gomez.
