Mauro Vieira was declared the future Minister of Foreign Affairs

During the meeting between the advisors of the WTO (WTO), Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, expressed concern about using sustainability as a cover for protectionist measures. According to the chancellor, the country wants a strengthened and modern world trade organization, which integrates topics such as sustainable development into its agenda without leaving aside traditional topics, such as agriculture. “Hey Brazil It is one of the countries that complain the most to the World Trade Organization about protectionist measures. Brazil is one of the biggest victims of international protectionism, as we have many sectors of our economy that are highly competitive. We talk a lot about agriculture because it is a great driver for the economy and for exports, but we have industrial products, like steel,” he says. Manuel Furilla, a specialist in international relations, points out that environmental issues are used as justifications for limiting the export of Brazilian products. On Wednesday, on the 7th, Minister Mauro Vieira took advantage of the meeting to self-rename Brazil as a “developing organization”, a definition abandoned by former President Jair Bolsonaro in 2019. In addition to Vieira, the meeting included representatives from the Ottawa Group, consisting of 14 members, including These include the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Chile, Mexico and South Korea.
