The new version, called Mario Kart HD, uses modified game files, which contain a special filter to increase the game’s resolution and FPS rate, providing more detail, smoother movement and other improvements over the popular classic Nintendo 64.
Created by Unreal YouTube channel, which posted a video showing how the game can be used in the Nintendo 64 emulator, since the original console does not have enough memory for a 4K title.
According to the creator of Mario Kart HD mods, installation is relatively simple. All you have to do is install the Nintendo 64 emulator on your computer and download the files it provides on Github via the link below.
With the files in hand, simply locate the folder containing the original game files in:
- hires_texture / MARIOKART64
Once you select the location, simply create a copy of the original files and replace them with the downloaded files. When starting the game, the graphics should already be in 4K resolution with greater fluidity, which is good news for such an old and beloved racing game.
