Marcopolo (POMO4), one of the main bus manufacturers in Brazil, achieved net profit of R$316.9 million, representing an increase of 34.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Marcopolo's Ebitda (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) in the first quarter reached R$315.4 million, a margin of 19.0%. The margin witnessed an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the first half of 2023, which recorded a margin of 17.7%. The percentage change in EBITDA was 7.7%.

The good performance of Marcopolo's bottom line and EBITDA can be attributed to several factors. Regarding net profit, the result was affected by the same factors that affected the EBITDA and financial result. On the other hand, EBITDA was strengthened thanks to a better sales mix, with an increase in road segment volumes, as well as a positive result from the royalty income of the Argentine subsidiary Metalpar, contributing R$29.5 million.

Marcopolo's net revenues in the first half amounted to R$1.656 billion, registering a variance of only 0.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. The decline in volumes is most notable in the urban and micro segments, offset by a better sales mix compared to the first quarter of 2023. The growth in volumes in the highway segment and the positive result of the Argentine subsidiary Metalpar led to a boost in revenues.

Regarding cash and debt, Marcopolo generated R$148.7 million in cash from operating activities, while investing and financing activities consumed R$60.0 million and R$161.6 million, respectively. The ending cash balance at March 31, 2024 was R$1.543 billion. Total net financial debt amounted to R$1,083 billion, most of which came from the financial sector (Banco Muneo).
