President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party) should be invited to participate in the meeting of the G7 – the group of seven most industrialized countries in the world.

This year, the event will take place in Hiroshima City, Japan – from May 19-21. A phone call between Lula and the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, would formalize the invitation to Brazil. The expectation, according to Itamaraty, is for the call to take place in the week following Lola’s trip to China.

The G7 consists of: Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.

The intention to invite the group to Lola was foreseen exclusively by Jornal da Globo. The G7 usually invites countries that are not part of the group, but are in the spotlight, to its meetings. The purpose of the call is to hear the views of developing countries on the global economy.

Exclusive: Lola must be invited to the G7 meeting in Japan

The last Brazilian participation in a G7 meeting was held in 2008, during Lula’s second term. Brazil first participated in the meeting in 2003, the first year of Lula’s government. After that, he was invited in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

Invited by the world’s most industrialized country, Lula’s trip to Africa, initially scheduled for May, will likely change its date and move to July, when the CPLP summit will take place in Sao Tome and Principe on the African coast.

Before heading to Japan, Lula will go to China and the United Arab Emirates this weekend, and in April to Portugal. After the G7 meeting, the President of Brazil has already scheduled other international flights. Practically one a month.

In September, according to tradition, Lula will deliver the inaugural address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. In the same month, he is to go to a meeting of the Group of Twenty, a grouping of the twenty major economies of the world. And in November, it will be the turn of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties, the United Nations Climate Summit, in the United Arab Emirates.
