Singer Bruce Dickinson, the leader of one of the world’s most famous heavy metal bands, Iron Maiden, took the pedal and ran to help promote the Heavy Metal Trounts event, which raised £1 million (about R$7 million) for UK childcare charities.

The group of amateur cyclists, between running and walking, covered about 60,000 kilometers in just 12 days. Due to the pandemic, this year’s edition of the event has taken place in “virtual mode”, where people from many parts of the world race alone or in small groups with time and distance counted.

The wind, which was taking “only” 40 participants, reached 260 people in this year’s edition, thanks to the possibility of participation from a distance. Applicants are from countries such as Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA.

The money raised by Heavy Metal Truants, set up by Iron Maiden Director Rod Smallwood, benefits Save The Children, Nordoff Robbins, Childline/NSPCC and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
