What are the steps for medical training in the UK?
1. Admission to medical school
As a university student
As Medical schools in the UK They usually follow their own admission criteria. Generally, to qualify to join the graduate program of medical candidates, the GSSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education), the current educational qualification in the British education system, is required at the AS and A levels. UK medical schools generally accept candidates with high scores in science and math.
Almost all medical schools in the UK require applicants to take an entrance exam and participate in an interview as part of their admission requirements. However, it should be noted that many universities across Europe offer guaranteed admission and do not have compulsory entrance exams.
Graduate
If you already have a bachelor of science degree in a field related to medicine, you can apply for a graduate job. This path allows those with the appropriate qualifications to expedite their medical degree by entering a course in postgraduate study. Many candidates choose graduate medical programs to further their education and enhance their career opportunities.
2. Medical degree
After successfully completing your studies, you will receive a degree in medicine at the university. Depending on your university program, you may qualify as a Medical Bachelor (MB) or MBBS, i.e. Medical Bachelor, Surgical Bachelor.
3. License to work as a medical professional
If you have a medical degree abroad and want to work in the UK, you must first register with the General Medical Council (GMC). As a part of this, you have to pass some exams. Keep in mind that if you graduate after 2022, you will have to take an exam called the UK Medical License Assessment (UKMLA).
4. UK Foundation Project
The next step is to complete the UK Foundation project, a two-year training program for physicians that serves as a bridge between medical school and specialized training.
5. Special
Upon successful completion of the UKFP, physicians may choose to continue working and learning through General Trainer (GP) training, or general training, or to specialize in another area.
General Training Training
To become a General Practitioner in the UK, you must have completed at least three years of specialized training in a program approved by the General Medical Council.
Special training
Depending on the specialty you choose, this internship can take 5 to 8 years to complete. But you will never stop learning to be a doctor. Even after you become fully qualified, you must continue to develop your knowledge and demonstrate your interest in practice, earning points in so-called Continuing Professional Development (CPT), which includes online courses and participation in workshops and seminars.
