The fire broke out in a car park at Luton Airport at around 9.30pm on Tuesday. The airport authorities have suspended all flights till 3 pm this Wednesday.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue teams attended the scene with 15 fire engines, three specialist aerial units and more than 100 operational personnel.
Andrew Hopkinson, chief fire officer at Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said the car park was overcrowded. 1,500 vehicles.

A witness told Sky News.Heard cars exploding.Another man said he was inside the airport when the fire broke out and knew his car was damaged “The entire parking lot 2 was completely destroyed”.
By midnight, firefighters were trying to stop the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. By 8:45 a.m. this Wednesday, the service said the fire was “under control and extinguished.”
Flights were grounded
Luton Airport said in a statement: “Emergency services are on site following a fire in Terminal Car Park 2 last night.”
“Passengers are advised not to go to the airport at this time as access is severely restricted. For queries regarding the parked vehicle or future bookings, please contact [email protected],” he added.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will investigate the cause of the fire.
