to Social media It was taken with pictures of an island with a strange shape that resembles a fingerprint.

Curiosity ran high and many wondered if the island was real or just a montage. The answer is surprising: this island exists and is located on it Croatia.

Known as Balginac, this piece of land on the Adriatic Sea is oval in shape and covered with many low walls made of stacked stones. Viewed from afar, the combination of these walls and the shape of the island is like the tip of a human finger.

The walls are 23 kilometers long and seem to form an intricate labyrinth, but in reality, they were built with the sole purpose of facilitating agriculture in the area.

Due to unfavorable conditions such as rocky terrain and strong winds, growing plants on the island is quite a challenge.

However, the people of the neighboring island of Caprigi built these stone walls to separate their crops and provide protection from harsh weather. Currently, the walls of Baljenac have become a tourist attraction, as there are no more farms left in the area.

It is noteworthy that this type of construction, commonly found in Croatia, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 2018.

A curious fact related to Balginak Island is periscope association, a technique used to identify individuals through fingerprints.

Ivan Vucic, who was born on the Croatian island of Hvar, near Balginac, developed this technique in 1892, while living in Argentina.

He solved the first criminal case based on fingerprints, leaving a great legacy in the field of forensic science.
