Stansted Airport in the UK has been forced to close due to inclement weather and all flights have been suspended. Heathrow and Gatwick also canceled or delayed some flights after snow, sleet and fog battered the country.
Scotland, London and South West England are under a yellow warning.
Railways and roads have also been affected, authorities are calling for more attention.
The only runway at Stansted Airport has been closed to remove snow.
“Passengers are advised to check flight status with airlines,” Stansted Airport said.
Heathrow and Gatwick were affected
At Heathrow Airport, more than 50 flights were canceled on Sunday (11). British Airways, the largest operator operating in the terminal, has apologized to passengers and will refund those whose flights have been cancelled.
Gatwick Airport temporarily closed one of its runways yesterday afternoon, and reopened it at 8pm local time when conditions improved.
Some flights have been canceled or delayed, and 28 flights have been diverted to other stations.
A Gatwick Airport spokesperson said: “Passengers are advised to check flight status with the airline – as well as travel conditions – before traveling to the airport.”
Officials at London Luton Airport have also warned of possible changes to flights.
On Saturday (10), Manchester Airport was forced to close its runways due to heavy snow that affected dozens of flights.
