Leonardo da Vinci’s work, La Gioconda (also known as Monalisa), on display at the Louvre in Paris, came under attack this afternoon. According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Pais”, a visitor threw a pie on the board.

The person who launched the object, to date, has not been identified. It is also not yet known what prompted her. At the time of the act, she was in a wheelchair and was wearing a wig. Tourists who were at the scene claim that the attacker was quickly contained and expelled.

The plate was not damaged because it is protected by a crystal plate. Museum guards quickly wiped the protective screen.

Perhaps this is just the madness of a man dressed as an old lady who jumps out of a wheelchair and tries to smash the bulletproof glass of the Mona Lisa. He then proceeds to smear the cake on the glass, throwing flowers all over the place before being dealt with by security. ??? pic.twitter.com/OFXdx9eWcM

The painting had already suffered from other acts of vandalism before. In August 2009, a woman threw a cup of tea at her workplace which broke when it crashed into a protective window. In 1974, when “Mona Lisa” was shown in Japan, another woman sprayed the painting. But there was no harm either way.
