The quiet British seaside town of Kent awoke to a 2.4-meter-tall mystery overnight: a wooden totem pole suddenly appeared on a cliff overlooking the sea in the Ship-le-Fern nature reserve, and it quickly sparked outrage and speculation. Its appearance.

The large sculpture bears the inscription ‘Pergunas’, the name of the Baltic god of thunder, and there are many theories among people and social media as to who put it up and why. There are those who dabble in conspiracy theories, talk of extraterrestrial activity, a prank, a disguised telecommunications antenna, or guarantee it’s an art installation by a ‘new Banksy’.

Those in charge of Kent Nature Reserve are not concerned with the mystery and are making efforts to allow the ‘post-pergunas’ to remain in the same location. However, on July 27th, something that has not happened since the totem was erected, the artist responsible for its placement must reveal himself.

“The municipality gave us eight weeks to submit the permit plan, and it would be great if we could identify the person behind the pergunas, so that we have more details and can keep it”, the person in charge notes on social networks.

“It’s not quite Banksy, but maybe an equivalent in the form of a totem pole?”, teases the fundraising organization to raise around 1,700 euros to ensure the artwork’s permanent project is guaranteed.
