A technical problem with the traffic system has reduced aircraft movements in UK airspace.

A technical problem has affected the UK's air traffic control system this morning (28), causing flight delays and cancellations across Europe.

The UK's National Air Traffic Service (NATS) has reduced commercial flight flows to maintain and ensure safety. The agency said the glitch affected the ability to process flight plans requested by airlines automatically, with data being entered manually.

“We have identified and resolved the technical issue that affected our flight planning system this morning. We are now working closely with airlines and airports to manage affected flights as efficiently as possible.”“NATS says in a statement.

The restrictions affect airports such as London's Heathrow and Gatwick, two of the world's busiest, and also affect routes that cross British airspace.

Airlines and airports are working closely with NATS to warn of delays and cancellations as operations return to normal.

“Our priority is always to ensure all flights in the UK remain safe and we are extremely sorry for the disruption this is causing. Please contact your airline for information on how this may affect your journey.”highlights the body responsible for managing British air traffic.

The failure affects services between Brazil and London, with flights operated by British Airways and LATAM.

In response to AERO magazine, the British airline says that “We are doing our best to get customers whose flights were affected back on their way and we apologize for the significant inconvenience caused.”

It is recommended. “Any customer scheduled to travel today or tomorrow, August 28 or 29, will be able to move their flights to a later date free of charge, subject to availability.”

Latam knows “There are no records of flights being cancelled to/from London on Monday.”

The note was updated at 3pm on Monday 28th, with responses from airlines with flights from Brazil to the UK.
