The Spanish group Aena announced on Wednesday, the 29th, that it had signed a concession contract for 11 airports in Brazil, including Congonhas, in São Paulo, as part of the “largest international development” in its history.

The semi-public group, the world’s largest airport operator by number of passengers, said in a statement that the concession contract is for 30 years, and it can be extended for another five years.

Of the 11 airports in four Brazilian states (Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and Pará), Congonhas had “the second largest number of passengers in Brazil,” the statement highlights.

Aena won the contract in a tender organized in August 2022, at a value of US$530 million (2.6 billion R$), according to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac).

The group, which already operates six airports in Brazil, as well as 46 in Spain and Luton in the UK, recorded traffic of 270 million passengers last year, resulting in a turnover of $4.5 billion (R$23.2 billion). ).
