When he analyzed the establishment’s bill, he noticed in the description an extra charge of €2 (just over $10 USD) required for ordering a sandwich to be split in half. The case took place near Lake Como, a region in Lombardy.

    The man, whose identity was not disclosed, ordered a vegetarian sandwich for €7.50 (40 R$) and asked to share the snack with a friend, he explains. New York Post. After the additional charges, although no complaint was made while paying, the tourist posted a negative comment on the travel site on TripAdvisor.

    “Unbelievable but true,” the customer wrote in the caption along with a photo of the cartoon posted on the site. On the receipt, the prices of the items appear: sandwich, soda, water and espresso, plus the controversial “retail fee.” In the rating, the tourist gave the restaurant one star – significantly lower than the average of four and a half stars.

    to the Italian newspaper RepublicChristina Biacchi, owner of Bar Pace, where the episode took place, defended the charge. “Additional requests come at a cost,” he explained. “We had to use two plates instead of one and it doubled the time to wash them. It wasn’t just a simple toasted sandwich, there were chips in it too. We took the time to cut it in two.” She also argued that the customer had not complained about the charge at the time of payment, and said she would have canceled fees if there are any questions.

    With the story’s repercussions on social networks, TripAdvisor was forced to suspend reviews of the venue. “Due to a recent event that has attracted media attention and caused an influx of review submissions that do not describe a first-hand experience, we have temporarily suspended posting of new reviews for this listing.”
