    Air strikes and power outages

Ukraine issued a nationwide air strike warning Thursday morning, which expired after about an hour and a half.

And the newspaper Okranska Pravda reported that the warning began at 10:16 am (local time), with the exception of the Crimea region, which was temporarily occupied by Russian forces.

The Ukrainian authorities explained that the alarm was sounded after Russian military planes took off from the territory of Belarus.

For its part, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense declared that the operation was a “planned patrol of the country’s air borders.”

The high-performance MiG-31K fighter, which can theoretically carry the Kinzhal hypersonic missile, was in the air for about an hour and a half. The plane was accompanied by two other fighter planes that took off from Baranovichi airport.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said authorities had imposed a blackout in the Ukrainian capital to save energy and “avoid accidents”.

Ukrainian energy company Uknergo had already confirmed the possibility of such outages earlier this week, especially after Russian attacks on “energy infrastructure in the central and northern regions” of the country.

Internet connectivity has dropped to about 80% of normal levels in the Kyiv region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged residents to reduce electricity consumption.

“We will certainly do everything in our power to restore the natural energy energies of our country, but it will take time. Please do not connect unnecessary devices and reduce electricity consumption for those devices that require a lot of energy,” the president stressed. .
