Anyone who has difficulty focusing on a task due to constantly popping up messages and notifications on Instagram will now be able to pay more attention to the activity. The social network has launched a silent mode, not yet available in Brazil, which temporarily changes all notifications sent to the person.
Now available in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Focus mode can be activated at any time, automatically changing the user’s activity status, now shown with a moon icon and mode warning activation.
By doing this, the person can modify how long they want to stay, and can later modify their settings and extend or reduce the programmed time, according to their needs.
During this time, notifications will be silenced, but by disabling the feature, the user will be able to see a summary of everything sent in the period. In addition, not all private messages will be “in a vacuum”, since an automatic reply will reach the sender letting them know that the person has Focus mode turned on.
According to Instagram, Focus mode should soon reach more countries. However, if you need this kind of management ASAP, it is worth noting that both iOS and Android have native resources that can help you.
While Apple’s operating system has Focus — which can mute notifications from Instagram and other apps — Android devices running Android 9 Pie and Android Q have Distraction-free mode in the Digital Wellness app.
Focus mode has teens as the target audience
While Instagram Focus Mode is available to all users in select markets, the company has already warned that it will require teens to use the feature when they spend a certain amount of time on Instagram late at night.
Aiming to further support this audience’s experience, the platform has also implemented a new feature in Family Center, a service launched in March last year, that gives parents access to moderation tools.
In this space, administrators will now be able to notify them when a teen changes some of their account configuration. In addition, they will also be able to see the accounts that their children have blocked, as well as other features that have already been released in the hub, such as setting the time limit.
