Federal Representative Erica Kokai (PT-DF) told delegates to the 37th National Staff Conference of Caixa Econômica Federal (Conecef) that the public bank is a victim of federal government fraud.

“Caixa is a victim of fraud. The speech of the President of Caixa and the President of the Republic is that there is no privatization. But Caixa is being privatized. [Por exemplo]It was said that the digital bank would be privatized.”

Kokai noted his active participation in the beginning of the building of the Caixa labor movement, which culminated in the historic strike of 1985. Since then, the congressman said, the company has been subjected to many threats.

“During this period, we have always fought for 100% public Caixa. Today, we are under a deep attack on all state-owned enterprises. It is a project built on many lies and a lot of hate. Denial is not accurate. It is a denial of reality..No software.” There is no development project…there is no rent.”

Banks strengthen the struggle in defense of public institutions

Rita Serrano, the elected representative of the Caixa workers on the bank’s board of directors, who participated on the same committee with Kokai, was in the same line and highlighted the workers’ role in defending the public character of the bank: “If the bank is still held by the public because we, the unions and associations, We carry a banner against privatization.”

She highlighted how the government’s denial is manifested in the economic sphere, especially in the pandemic and crisis scenario: “This moment has made it clear that the state must have strong structural institutions. Imagine what it would be without SUS, Caixa, Butantan, FioCruz?”.

“If selling assets during the pandemic, the time of the health crisis, the social crisis, is a crime,” Serrano said, “as the state loses its ability to boost and revitalize the economy.”

“Brazil is against the world in every way. While there is talk of privatization, the UK has just set up a public investment bank and overcome the crisis. Germany is using its public bank, Canada the same”, compare it.

Conecef is held annually, as part of the general activities of the National Confederation of Workers in the Financial Sector, of the CUT (Contraf-CUT).
