Website management has moved a long way since its origins in the early 1990’s. These days Content Managed Systems (CMS) allow website administrators to create and manage their own websites with little or no knowledge of coding, unlike traditional web builders such as Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe Dreamweaver. Content Management Systems are allowing companies all over the world to have an affordable internet presence that can easily be updated as and when their businesses grow. To the average SME owner this means you no longer need to depend on a web developer that will take to long to make changes and have expensive hourly fees.

However when selecting a CMS platform for your website make sure it’s SEO friendly.

Make sure your CMS:

1. Has an alt tag field for every image you can add.
- So images can be referenced with keywords

2. Has meta title, meta description and meta keyword fields for each page you can add.
- So every page can be targeted with specific keywords

3. Has the ability to name the extension of each page.
- So every URL extension can be optimised with keywords.

4. Has an option to add footer link for each page.
- To make sure good internal interlinking is possible

5. Your HTML editor has options to create links out of any word to a specific keyword.
- To be able to create keyword rich anchor links

6. The page template code follows a solid H1,H2, H3 structure.
- To make sure search engines read through the content properly and understand the hierarchy of content importance.

7. Its as W3C compliant as possible.
- To make sure Search Engines can navigate easily through pages

8. In the case of e-commerce website for the products database to be able to be exportable as a single CSV file.
- To make sure products can easily be integrated with Google Products.
