Search Engine Optimisation News
Last week a US based company called Webmarketing 123 released a report confirming what many of us in online marketing believe, that SEO remains the most valuable tool for generating traffic and leads/sales.
The report offers useful insight for agencies, as the findings are results of surveys sent to 500 in house marketers, two thirds of which work in business to business (B2B) marketing. The report details what in house marketers expect and how they review success of online marketing campaigns. Like any marketer, their main objective is to generate revenue in the form of leads and sales, however, according to the report just under 80% of business to consumer (B2C) marketers specifically look at web traffic a significant factor in judging a successful campaign.

The results show that SEO is the most effective tool for generating leads and sales, proving more valuable than PPC and Social Media Marketing.

We know that for some industries, SEO traffic can account for over 70% of total web traffic. If you have a Google Analytics account for your business, look in traffic sources and you should see a significant blue slice of your traffic pie-chart.
Looking at other resources, SEO is only set to become more and more a necessity. In 2010, search engine usage increased by 46% from the previous year, and we are likely to see a greater increase this year.
Marketers are aware of this, and the Webmarketing 123 report confirms that 53.1% of organisations surveyed are looking to increase their SEO spend to maximise their online presence. For SEO agencies this is good news, yet it also means that the market will only get more competitive. As much as Social Media Marketing reigns in the spotlight, especially for creative and engaging campaigns, good SEO cannot be ignored.
