Search Engine Optimisation News
All the recent talk of search companies tackling the issue of Google's total dominance of the market has not seemed to phase the firm - much. According to new figures from comScore, Google is still the market leader in the US search engine sector by quite a stretch. In July, the firm held a 65.8 per cent market share. Granted, this was a decrease on June's figure of 66.2 per cent - but only a minute 0.4 per cent decline.
Microsoft's Bing, which has been shouting about its new strategy to dethrone Google of late, put in a fairly lacklustre performance for July, racking up a market share of 11 per cent. Unfortunately for Microsoft, this was identical to its June results from comScore, so all that talk hasn't served it particularly well.
Yahoo remains in second place with a market share of 17.1 per cent - an increase equivalent to Google's fall.
comScore looked at almost 15.6 billion explicit core searchers during the month of July - excluding contextually-driven searchers that fail to "reflect specific user intent to interact with the search results".
This means Google racked up 10.3 billion searchers in the US alone, which means website optimisation strategies are unlikely to start revolving around rival search engines anytime soon.
And it's not just standard search that Google is dominating. The firm is standing head and shoulders above rivals when it comes to online video consumption. The firm racked up more than 143 unique views during the month of July - almost triple the amount registered by Yahoo.
All these figures should reassure SEO Companies that continue to focus their website optimisation strategies on the dominant search engine. Google's performance is so strong and its user base so wide that is should be the starting point for almost all digital marketing strategies.
But these figures are no reason to ignore other search engines when compiling a search engine marketing strategy. According to QueryClick, the moves being made by Bing, and the speed at which web users are flocking to the search engine, means it deserves a place in every SEO company's website optimisation strategies.
