Search Engine Optimisation News
The importance of blogs in a search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy has been outlined by an expert.
In an article for Net Imperative, David Holt said that blogs are "fantastic for SEO".
He explained that there are several ways a blog with frequent, keyword-rich, optimised posts can help to boost a website's visibility on the internet.
Search engines are more likely to pick up on fresh content that uses lots of search terms and key words, helping the site to gain a high ranking in search results.
But Mr Holt also pointed out that internet users will themselves share and promote engaging blog posts through social media platforms such as Facebook.
Another way in which blogs can help search engine optimisation is by encouraging dialogue and interaction with people from outside the company.
He noted that in this way, a firm can become part of an online community and increase its standing.
"Excellent monitoring, regular participation and engagement is the key to success with social media," Mr Holt explained.
Another expert who recently outlined the role of blogging for search engine optimisation is Chris Brogan.
He accepted that email marketing and newsletters can be beneficial for a business, but advised against using them instead of blogs.
The professional expressed his belief that blogs are better for marketing than email, especially when combined with social media.
Mr Brogan pointed out that while emails can be forwarded, it is easier to share information through a blog.
Blogs also have a proper presence on the internet, unlike emails being sent to customer inboxes.
They can also be used for multiple purposes.
"A blog is a media property. It's free organic search," Mr Brogan wrote in an article for his website, adding that he writes on his own blogs on a daily basis.
