Search Engine Optimisation News
Email is arguably the most prolific form of communication on the internet and businesses of all sizes can compete on an almost level playing field with the digital marketing medium.
However, there are a number of drawbacks with the channel – particularly the risk of having legitimate marketing efforts lumped in the same category as spam messages created by cybercriminals – that make SEO (search engine optimisation) an excellent alternative.
Recent research by Yankelovich Partners found that 65 per cent of web users felt like they were constantly being bombarded by spam and other online marketing material – a worrying amount.
More to the point, email marketing is having less of an impact on readers as almost two thirds of web users claim it is now "out of control".
And once a firm's email marketing reputation becomes questionable, it can be very difficult to turn that negative perception around, which can, in turn, damage a company's search engine marketing efforts.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, industry expert Jordan Gottlieb suggested that search engine optimisation offers a number of benefits over email marketing and should always be a core aspect of any online marketing strategy.
He noted that creating a strong web presence around relevant keywords that connect directly with customers can do wonders for a business.
Mr Gottlieb likened search engine optimisation to opening a shop on a busy highway.
"You know for a fact that thirsty people are going to be riding by," he told the news provider.
Moreover, SEO is considered an excellent way for companies to manage their online reputation and dispel any negative comments or blog posts about their products and services.
According to Drop Ship News, by adopting simple web analytic techniques to assess pages that contain negative web content, it is possible to action a search engine marketing campaign that will push such content further down search engine results pages.
