Social media 'helps small firms get ahead'
December 16th 2009
The use of social media is helping small businesses get ahead in website marketing, it has been claimed.
Writing for Kelowna.com, entrepreneurship specialist Rick Spence said that firms should let customers lead the way when it comes to choosing between online
marketing platforms such as websites, webinars, e-newsletters, blogging, podcasts, Facebook, Twitter and pay-per-click advertising.
"The new social media were made for small businesses, because they serve niche markets. Once you target your market, the web lets you market directly to that
target, fast, cheaply and effectively," he added.
Mr Spence went on to say that social media sites enable companies to develop relationships with their clients through the establishment of special-interest
groups.
Earlier this week, IT industry commentator Adam Stafford wrote for TechRadar.com that Google's new Real Time Search - which combines search results with
real-time posts on social media sites - is an important search marketing tool for firms.
