Companies with an online presence are being encouraged to run pay-per-click(PPC) campaigns campaigns to ensure they maximise their returns.
According to Sam Tilston, online marketing director at internet mail order company Zoombits.co.uk, potential customers are becoming lazier when searching online and simply typing destination names into search engines without 'www.' or '.com' - something companies should ensure they are set up to capitalise on.
"For this reason it is also becoming important for companies to run PPC campaigns on their own brands and website names to ensure competitors do not get any of their traffic," he explained.
He went on to say that search engine optimisation is improved by having a user-friendly uniform resource locator structure so that the web address is in plain English and easy to remember.
Research carried out by Google this week found that the top five most popular online searches for 2009 were Facebook, BBC, YouTube, hotmail and games.
