Search Engine Optimisation News
Microsoft has introduced a new iPhone app to increase the impact of mobile search
engine optimisation (SEO).
Experts say that the focus of the new Bing app is on providing localised search results and map data.
However, the app will be competing with Google's default browser, Safari, and includes a number of features that could attract new iPhone users.
At present many iPhone apps, such as Google Maps and YouTube, are powered by Google.
And with two search engine apps in the iPhone already, experts forecast a growing role for mobile SEO(search engine optimisation) in the future of the industry. Already the Bing app has received positive reviews. Greg Stirling, writing at Search Engine Land, calls Microsoft's new app "well-designed, intuitive, pleasing to look at, and most importantly, useful".
Smartphone sales are set to rise by ten per cent over the next five years, according to Jupiter Research.
Sales of mobile phones posted a nominal growth of five to six per cent in 2008, and Jupiter believes that of all mobile phones sold globally approximately 13 per cent were smartphones.Â
