Google's new Caffeine update will change the way it indexes the web entirely - but what effect will this have on search engine optimisation (SEO)?
Google announced its next-generation architecture for web searching on its official blog in August 2009.
However, most users are unlikely to notice anything different when the new system takes over in the new year, according to Erick Schonfeld of TechCrunch.
Still, Caffiene will likely present Google results faster and make its search offering more real-time, Mr Schonfeld said.
Citing a Summit Media study conducted earlier this year, Mr Schonfeld added that rankings are unlikely to be affected, although websites that do slip down the rankings are more likely to be relying on older, archived content that has not been updated in years.
"Keeping your site fresh to be crawled by Caffeine will be important," he remarked.
Further, Summit Media found that only five per cent of urls contain exact matches for the searched keyword.
