Updates made by users of social sites Twitter, Facebook and MySpace will be merged with general Google web search results in the latest innovation from the internet firm.
Real Time Search means anyone looking for information on events as they are happening can view public messages posted in the past few minutes rather than outdated news articles.
"Whether it's an eyewitness tweet, a breaking news story or a fresh blog post, you can find it on Google right after it's published on the web," said Google fellow Amit Singhal in a recent blog post.
The blog continued that the real-time search features are based on more than a dozen new search technologies that enable Google to monitor more than a billion documents and process hundreds of millions of real-time changes each day.
Real Time Search is possible thanks to a series of deals the search engine giant has struck with social networking sites including Facebook, MySpace, FriendFeed, Jaiku and Identi.ca, as well as the most recent partner, Twitter.
