Real-time website optimisation thrust into the spotlight (again)

Search Engine Optimisation News

Last week Google began testing a new incarnation of its Google Suggest service which offers real-time search engine results pages as a person types. Granted, it is a development that is unlikely to win over many web users - let alone SEO agencies - but it shows that Google is always striving to update its product portfolio with website optimisation-defining additions.

And this week, Google has put the focus back on its other real-time search tool - aka Google Realtime. Now, this is a search supplement that could have a much more far-reaching impact on website optimisation strategies than simple aesthetic developments - like those offered by the dynamic Google Suggest tool.

Google Realtime shows that the company is backing social media trends and developing content aggregation that exploits the ever-growing user base of sites like Facebook and Twitter.

What does this mean for companies' search engine marketing strategies? Well, it means they are more likely to become integrated into broader digital marketing like never before.

Real-time search results have already been appearing in standard Google searchers for a while, but the dedicated Realtime product shows that Google is committed to this new development. This, of course, means that the rules of search engine optimisation will increasingly apply to every digital marketing channel - including strategies launched on Facebook and Twitter.

It also means that regular updates will become a necessity as search engine marketing itself goes real-time.

Not only that, but Google's new Realtime product allows users to tailor their searchers geographically - putting more onus on local search engine marketing - and follow conversations and news items as they develop.

This shift in search engine use seems to be part of Google's strategy to dominate the social networking sector - or at least be the first point of call when it comes to sifting through social media posts. So it is very likely that the search engine optimisation of Facebook and Twitter accounts will become increasingly important to companies - particularly if a firm wants to maintain an ongoing conversation with its customers.

These developments are happening extremely quickly, so acting now is a necessity. It is time to make sure your website optimisation strategy straddles all digital marketing channels before it's too late.
